It's her first...

You guessed it! Gillian's got her first crush. She is head over heels. She came home from school the other day with stars in her eyes.

So cute.

I have since been inundated with questions surrounding any love I might have had in grade school. Or after. Or at anytime in my life.

Gillian:

"Who was your first love, Mama? Did he love you? Did you feel funny?"

Glazed look in her eyes and multiple *sighs* as she hugs her pillow.

So I tell her about my first love. Funnily enough, it happened in second grade. His name was David and he had red hair and freckles. We were going to get married. FOR REAL! But, alas, his parents were missionaries at our Lutheran school and he moved away to Africa that summer. *sigh*

"What about Daddy? What did you think when you saw him? Did he love you? Tell me!"

Well, actually, it was kinda love at first sight. But we pretended not to notice. For about three years or so. Yes, we were dating during the time, but we didn't like each other or anything. We were very noncommital.

"Noncommital?"

Story for another time. Who do you love, Gilly?

At which point she rolls hers eyes and tells me she doesn't love anyone...but she might kinda like Theo. A little. But just as a friend. And, yes, he sits next to her at lunch. And chases her at recess. And pulls her hair. But they don't love each other because boys are stinky.

Phew! That was a close one!

Little girl love is adorable and terrifying all at the same time.

That's funny, I feel the same way about big girl love.

My first crush was Raymond in kindergarden. This little snotty girl Angela was pissed because HER crush Bruce had a crush on ME, so one day in the gym when Raymond and I were holding hands, she decided to try and red-rover us and run through them. Except for instead of letting go I held on fast to Raymonds hand and that little bitch got a bloody lip. Thus began the next twenty-odd years of relationship disaster... better luck to Gillian!

i LOVE crush stories. and "this is how we met" stories. my first crush was named keith. i can't remember what happened to that.

bk (my mister) and i met when we were assigned seats next to each other in civil procedure. he was so cute and had dreadlocks down to his butt, so i KNEW he would be trouble for me. his side of the story is that i was mean for the first 6 months we knew each other. go figure.

the pillow hug is the best way to deal with a crush, isn't it!?

p.s. thanks for stopping by my little blog!

Awww. Cute. I miss the "circle yes or no" notes from my school day crushes. Kind of hard to believe now, that a simple circle really said it all!

I had completely forgotten about red-redrover! Funny! ...And, ah, yes, relationship disasters...we're all feel your pain!

Kelly-How could you forget what happened with your first love! Heavens! So, I can't picture bk with dreads down to his butt. I saw a pic of him on your blog...looks so handsome and non-hippie! Post one of his dreads! Please!
PS-Nathan hated civ pro...if I get in, we'll see how I like it. Oh, and of course you were mean! Isn't that how we do things?

Johanna-I wish 'circle yes or no' was still the way things work. So much simpler then...ah, well. Such is life.

Don't let Bethany foll you all. ALL the boys wer after her. When her dad and I went to the first parent/teacher's conference during kindergarten, we met some of the other parents outside the classroom. Of course, we all asked the name of the child we represented. As soon as the others heard we wer Bethany's parents, they woudl roll their eyes and say, Oh, WE know BETHANY! Our little [insert boys name here] talks about her all the time! He loves her! Or, "Oh, WE know BETHANY! Our little [insert girl's name here] is so upset because all the boys love Bethany!

So she is getting some of the mother's curse now with Gillian! Smile!

Love, Bethany's Mom
